proposals and proceedings from the Biennial Conference are documented and properly prepared prior to forwarding the Summary of Actions to FDA for review. The second priority was the continued facilitation of the uniform implementation of the National Shellfish Sanitation Program according to the requirements in the Model Ordinance. the National Shellfish Sanitation Program and membership in the Interstate Shellfish Sanitation Conference, states have agreed to enforce the Model Ordinance as the requirements which are minimally necessary for the sanitary control of molluscan shellfish.

Oysters contaminated in nature depurated fecal coliforms to levels below 50/ g in 48 hr over a wide range of environmental conditions typical of the lower Chesapeake Bay region. Temperature was found to be the most crilical environmental factor with conditions below °C having the potential of inhibiting depuration. Coliform clearance did not appear to be correlated with pumping rate. Oysters from the James displayed variations in Kepone residue levels related to water temperature and their spawning cycle. Oyster depuralion rates were related to temperature. In summer the "biological half. life" of Kepone in oysters was about one week, while during the winter about 40 days were required for residue levels to decline by 50 per cent. Residues in blue crabs varied as a.

Meetings. Annual Meeting: The National Shellfisheries Association Annual Meeting provides a valuable opportunity to present and learn about the latest research on shellfish and shellfisheries. The Annual Meeting is generally held in late March unless held as the triennial meeting convened concurrently with the World Aquaculture Society and American Fisheries Society, Fish Culture Section. The densities ofAeromonas hydrophila in various natural waters were found to be strongly correlated with a relative index proposed for use in trophic state assessments of fresh waters. No such correlation was found with the recoverable heterotrophic population of whichA. hydrophila is a part.A. hydrophila was found to be seasonally distributed with maximal densities occurring during summer.
